Dakota Tin Tiles Patina Options
- Random Mixture: Offer the most contrast between cool, darker grey/blue coloring and warm, orange/brown rust coloring. It is a mix of majority rust, majority galvanized, and partial rust. Our most popular style, random mix is recommended for large projects. It is not recommended for small projects due to the large variation between pieces.
- Majority Rust: The majority of each tile will have warm, orange/brown rust coverage and coloring.
- Majority Galvanized: The majority of each tile will have cool, darker grey/blue antique galvanized coverage and coloring.
- Premium: This tin is the best we find. Each piece is a nice mix of rust and galvanized that can only be created from natural weathering. It is also flatter with less warping. Recommended for smaller applications.
Environmental Benefits of "Upcycled" Barn Tin Ceiling Tiles
The Dakota Tin Collection was founded from a desire to add a real, rustic, antique, vintage, and industrial look to homes or businesses. Because they are salvaged from Midwest barn roofs and machine sheds. These corrugated tin tiles are upcycled - not recycled.
Our reclaiming process saves energy and keeps materials out of recycling centers and landfills. With recycled items, the raw material (glass, metal, paper, rubber, etc.) is broken down and reshaped into an original product. Upcycled materials, however, are repurposed products that are not broken down, merely reshaped, or adjusted to suit a different purpose. Recycling is an important practice, but upcycling is generally considered a greener and more environmentally-friendly method.

Could not be happier with the wall we created in our home using these!
They went out of their way to accommodate me. Product was perfect. Exactly what I needed!!! It's the middle layer on this commission.
Overall, we were very pleased with the look of the ceiling using the Reclaimed Corrugated Barn Tiles. The final ceiling looks awesome. Full disclosure, we used a standard black drop ceiling track in our installation because we wanted the contrast (black, rust, and galvanized) for the room versus the J-Track that Dakota Tin sells. However, I can see where the J-track would have held the panels flatter.
Since we were laying the ceiling panels in a standard drop ceiling track, the quality of the panels was in question at times. I understand this is typically a reclaimed product, but there should be some quality control looking at each panel for the price. This was our second order of tins. The first time we ordered, there were several cases, and only a few ceiling panels were so bent that they were unusable. This time we ordered another 190 or so panels, and we had an entire case that was horrible. I understand every tin looks different and the quality is different. We dealt with cases of panels over the project, and one case was horrible. I never counted the cases or the number of panels in each case, but I would estimate about 15 panels in each case. The bad case I am speaking about had barely even rusted panels. It was hard to figure out the galvanized top versus the typical bottom you see. The group of panels in it seemed very out of place. If the rust were the only problem, that would not have been such a big deal. The variety in panel color looks great on a large ceiling. The real problem was the panels were so bent and twisted so bad that we could not even get them to lay flat. At $22 a panel, that is a big deal. Prepare that you will have panels that will not lay flat if you are not using the J-Track. You can bend them every way, and they are not going to lie flat.
Dakota Tin was great to deal with. Got several different samples of their products and found one that worked perfect for my application. They were very responsive in all aspects of the transaction and shipped quickly. I ordered 250 of the 2x2 ceiling tiles in a mixed pattern. The tin was exactly what I expected.
